
ARDHA MATSYENDRASANA ... (Half Spinal Twist) Just as the name suggests, this
posture is perfect for the gentle adjustment of the spine. It also strengthens your side
muscles (and those love handles), and lubricates both your neck and spinal discs. And just
as a sidelight here, about twenty years ago a doctor told me that I had a couple of discs
in my neck that had degenerated to the point of needing surgery. I told him, "No
way." I decided to take care of the problem myself by increasing the Yoga asanas that
dealt specifically with neck problems (this was number one on the list.) A few months
later I went back to the doctor, had a second x-ray taken, and guess what ... the discs in
my neck had separated and the degeneration had stopped. End of problem.
